Travel Requirement: Regular travel to operating sites in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Role Purpose
The Geology Manager Africa provides strategic geological leadership and technical expertise across the African portfolio, supporting both operating assets and growth initiatives. The role serves as the regional subject matter expert across Resource Geology, Operational Geology, Geological Databases, and Structural Geology, ensuring the delivery of high-quality geological models, resource estimates, technical governance, and operational support.
The position plays a critical role in supporting Mutanda Mining (MUMI), Kamoto Copper Company (KCC), and portfolio growth opportunities across Africa by driving geological excellence, resource development, technical assurance, and continuous improvement across the region.
Operating Context
The role operates within a complex and technically demanding environment, providing geological leadership and governance across large-scale copper mining operations and project developments in Africa. The position supports sizeable producing assets, resource growth programs, brownfield expansion opportunities, and regional project initiatives, requiring close collaboration with multidisciplinary technical teams and senior leadership.
The incumbent is expected to balance strategic resource stewardship with operational requirements, ensuring geological best practices are consistently applied across operating sites and project studies while supporting long-term portfolio growth objectives.
Key Accountabilities
Geological Leadership & Technical Governance
- Provide regional leadership and oversight across all geology-related disciplines within the Africa portfolio.
- Establish and maintain geological standards, procedures, and assurance frameworks aligned with corporate requirements.
- Act as the senior technical authority for geological matters across operating sites and development projects.
- Lead technical reviews, audits, peer reviews, and due diligence activities.
Resource Geology
- Lead the development, maintenance, and validation of geological and resource models across the African portfolio.
- Ensure Mineral Resource estimates are prepared, reviewed, and governed in accordance with applicable reporting standards and company requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in resource estimation methodologies, geological understanding, and resource classification.
- Support Life of Mine planning through the provision of robust geological models and resource inputs.
Operational Geology
- Provide technical guidance and support to site geology teams to optimise orebody understanding and operational outcomes.
- Support reconciliation activities between resource models, mine production, and processing performance.
- Identify geological risks and opportunities affecting mining, grade control, resource recovery, and production performance.
- Promote best-practice operational geology processes across all supported operations.
Geological Database Management
- Provide governance and oversight of geological databases across operating assets and projects.
- Ensure geological data integrity, quality assurance, security, and compliance with company standards.
- Drive improvements in geological data management systems, workflows, and reporting capabilities.
- Support implementation and optimisation of geological software, databases, and digital technologies.
Structural Geology
- Lead structural geological interpretation to support resource modelling, exploration targeting, mine planning, and operational decision-making.
- Provide specialist expertise on orebody controls, mineralisation models, and geological risk assessment.
- Support identification and evaluation of resource growth opportunities through advanced geological interpretation.
Portfolio Growth & Technical Support
- Provide geological expertise to regional growth projects, project studies, and resource expansion initiatives.
- Support technical evaluations, investment decisions, project development activities, and business improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to resource growth strategies and resource-to-reserve conversion programs across the portfolio.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop direct reports while fostering technical excellence within the broader geology community.
- Promote knowledge sharing, capability development, and succession planning across regional geology teams.
- Build a culture of safety, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Geological Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 15 years' experience in mining geology, including significant exposure to large-scale mining operations.
- Deep experience in copper mining operations and resource evaluation.
- Extensive expertise in Resource Geology, Operational Geology, Geological Databases, and Structural Geology.
- Demonstrated experience supporting Mineral Resource estimation, geological modelling, and mine operations.
- Experience working across multiple operations and projects within a regional or corporate environment.
- Strong leadership experience managing and developing technical teams.
Preferred
- Postgraduate qualification in Geology or related discipline.
- Experience within African mining jurisdictions, particularly the DRC.
- Professional registration with a recognised geological association.
- Competent Person (CP) status, or eligibility to act as a Competent Person.
