Watu Wetu SAS, WW SAS in acronym, is a company under Congolese law operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the main activity of managing a medical service for businesses and A training center. WW SAS serves the companies Kamoto Copper Company SA and Mutanda Mining SARL which are its main shareholders.

The company covers the medical care of all employees of these two companies as well as their family members.

WW SAS comprises three facilities, namely Watu Wetu Clinic in Mumi, Watu Wetu City Site and Watu Wetu Hospital in KCC. With additional services provided by third-party healthcare facilities for employees and dependents located in Lubumbashi and Kinshasa, as well as those referred for specialized treatment not available in Kolwezi.

Watu Wetu SAS provides health services to a population of approximately 70,000 people.

Job Description

 

  • Under the direct supervision of the Principal Medical, the incumbent is responsible for providing high quality, safe, competent, effective and well-centered medical care to the population served.
  • To serve, in the town/city where he/she is assigned, as a Liaison Physician for monitoring the health care provided to clients, employees and eligible dependents of Watu Wetu and Glencore Group Companies requiring treatment in medical facilities under contract with Watu Wetu,

 

He will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

  • Respond to medical and health problems presented by patients in the emergency room, outpatient department, and inpatient wards through history taking, diagnosis, investigation, treatment, and referral as appropriate.
  • Adhere to Watu Wetu medical management protocols and guidelines to ensure standardization of medical care based on international standards
  • Recommend, undertake treatment options; perform medical or surgical interventions according to Watu Wetu SAS procedures
  • Referral of resident and transferred patients to appropriate providers, diagnostic, therapeutic and support services, as needed according to Watu Wetu's transfer procedure.
  • Monitor the quality of care provided by providers as well as hospitalization conditions
  • Manage relationships with healthcare providers and expedite problem resolution
  • Update the therapeutic and medical possibilities available in the city of service and inquire about local pricing for health services
  • Select and direct care to the most appropriate providers
  • Screening, risk assessment and early detection of diseases, conditions and disabilities based on appropriate evidence.
  • Practice preventive medicine by performing interventions aimed at helping patients reduce or modify their risky and harmful lifestyle habits.
  • Ongoing care and support for patients with chronic and terminal illnesses
  • The education, counseling, and information of patients about health issues and ways to improve health and prevent disease, as well as interventions or treatments that address risk factors.
  • Contribute to the quality of patient care by participating in case planning, which includes the appropriate medical management of outpatients and inpatients and the referral of patients to inpatient and outpatient medical specialists or other healthcare facilities.
  • Recommend to the senior physician administrator the medical equipment, supplies, medications and consumables necessary to carry out your daily tasks.
  • Participate in Watu Wetu's 24-hour on-call service.
  • Manage health incidents such as epidemics and pandemics by following best practice procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain harmonious collaboration and teamwork with other general practitioners and specialists in the medical care of patients in all Watu Wetu facilities.
  • Ensure that service providers comply with the pricing rates as agreed between them and Watu Wetu
  • Maintain good communication with all departments and disciplines within Watu Wetu, as well as with doctors and providers at local health facilities to ensure the smooth running of Watu Wetu.
  • Develop or revise standard operating procedures, guidelines and medical protocols applicable to Watu Wetu, as directed by the Senior Medical Administrator.
  • Submit work reports as requested by the Head of Department or Senior Physician.
  • Ensure that complete, accurate and concise medical records and reports (paper and digital) are maintained for patients, including a duly signed, dated and legible entry in the patient's medical record for each patient's attendance.
  • Ensure administrative follow-up of patient files
  • Ensure that the confidentiality of patient information and medical records is maintained.
  • Ensure that correspondence (i.e., letter of recommendation, sick leave, etc.) is completed as soon as possible and that all such correspondence is complete before the patient is discharged from Watu Wetu.
  • Ensure that tasks are performed professionally, efficiently, ethically and in accordance with international standards and evidence-based medical practices, while respecting standards of care.
  • Ensures that all information entered into the hospital management system (Pro-Clin) is accurate, appropriate and in accordance with agreed protocols.
  • Ensure a complete and detailed handover report between teams and before a period of absence such as leave.
  • Follow case escalation procedures in the interest of best patient outcomes.

 

Job requirements.

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Be of Congolese nationality
  • Have a Diploma in General Medicine.
  • Be registered with the National Council of the Order of Physicians of the DRC.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in general medicine.
  • Mastery of French is mandatory.
  • Fluency in Swahili and English is an asset.
