Job description.

 

Reporting directly to the Survey Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and updating of all mining survey maps. He/she will manage the survey control database for operations and work closely with the technical team to ensure safe and efficient production.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Lead and develop the topography survey team. This includes leading the open pit mine survey team to ensure all relevant survey tasks are completed. Additionally, this involves supervising, training and developing the open pit mine survey team.
  • Plan and execute daily activities. This involves defining and directing the daily activities of the underground mining survey team in order to achieve the department’s objectives. It is also essential to coordinate and implement daily, weekly and long-term projects by working closely with key stakeholders.
  • Produce reports and analyze data. This includes producing high quality daily and monthly topographic survey reports. In addition, it involves periodically estimating the over-excavation of working faces and development works and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Improve Safety Procedures and Practices. This involves developing new procedures and reviewing existing procedures and safe working practices within the surface mining survey team to ensure they are consistent with current risk management practices.
  • Comply with standards and regulations. This includes meeting health, safety, legal, regulatory and licensing standards as defined by local and company legal requirements.
  • Evaluate and adopt new technologies . This includes evaluating and recommending new software and equipment purchases, as well as monitoring new technology innovations and software applications.
  • Manage operational and capital expenditure . This involves overseeing the department's operational and capital expenditure, ensuring that the policies of the investment management framework are adhered to.
  • Comply with audits . This involves overseeing compliance with internal and external audits.

 

Job requirements .

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Hold an engineering degree in Topography or a related discipline.
  • Have at least ten (10) years of post-qualification experience in topographic surveys in open pit mining with five (5) years in a leadership role;
  • Experience in using Drones and Scanners.
  • Experience in using relevant software such as Deswik , Surpac and AutoCAD.
  • Hold a job seeker card (ONEM).

 

Technical skills.

 

  • Ability to develop preventive rather than corrective actions.
  • Good command of office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • A thorough knowledge of the different survey methods (topographic surveys, geodesic surveys, drone surveys, etc.) is essential to choose the most suitable method for each situation.
  • An understanding of surface mining methods.
  • Knowledge of safety standards in force in the mining sector.
