Job description.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Geotechnical Manager , the incumbent will lead a team responsible for the collection and analysis of hydrological data, design and implementation of desilting, hydrological modeling, management of consultants and all required reporting. He/She will also ensure good collaboration between technical and operational teams, ensuring the correct implementation of groundwater and surface water management plans in the field.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Lead and supervise hydrogeological and hydrological assessments, including planning, coordinating and executing field investigations. Thoroughly collect, analyze and interpret hydrogeological data to characterize subsurface conditions. Develop stormwater management plans for operations and supervise their implementation to minimize the impact of surface water runoff on mining activities. Evaluate and integrate geological, hydrological and environmental data to develop accurate conceptual site models.
  • Manage drilling programs and well installation projects, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations. Collaborate with drilling contractors to optimize drilling techniques and equipment selection. Oversee the installation and development of monitoring wells and other groundwater observation systems.
  • Use advanced groundwater modeling software to simulate and analyze aquifer behavior. Provide expertise in developing predictive models for groundwater flow, contaminant transport , and other hydrogeologic processes. Interpret modeling results and communicate findings to stakeholders, providing recommendations for project optimization.
  • Work closely with operations to ensure full compliance with surface and groundwater management plans. Design and monitor KPIs and dashboards to track compliance with hydrological plans.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate hydrogeological considerations into project designs. Work closely with environmental scientists and other stakeholders to assess and mitigate potential impacts to water resources. Participate on interdisciplinary project teams, providing hydrogeological expertise to support overall project objectives.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to a team of hydrogeologists and geoscientists. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging knowledge sharing and professional development. Conduct performance reviews and implement training programs to enhance team skills.
  • Stay informed of changes in hydrogeological regulations and industry best practices. Ensure that the organization's hydrogeological activities comply with relevant local, state and federal regulations. Represent the organization in regulatory meetings and maintain positive relationships with regulatory authorities.

 

Job requirements .

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Hold an engineering degree in geology, geomining , mining or an equivalent technical field;
  • Have at least ten (10) years of professional experience in the application of hydrogeology to surface mining;
  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced hydrological analysis and numerical modeling applied to underground and surface mining.
  • Experience in groundwater modeling and applied knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience and applied knowledge in basic hydrogeological assessments, surface and groundwater monitoring programs, groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Hold a job seeker card (ONEM).

 

Technical skills.

 

  • High level of skills with AutoCAD, MS Office, MS Project, Visio, DataMine ,
  • Advanced mastery of hydrological modeling software such as MODFLOW, FEFLOW, Visual MODFLOW.
  • Ability to develop preventive rather than corrective actions.
  • Ability to perform in-depth analyses of complex hydrogeological problems and communicate results to senior management.
  • Knowledge of hydrological measuring instruments (limnimeters, flow meters, multi-parameter probes ) and their use in the field.
  • Knowledge of geophysical methods (resistivity, electromagnetism) for the characterization of aquifers and the detection of anomalies.
  • Knowledge of the applications of stable and radioactive isotopes in hydrogeology to trace the origin and movement of groundwater.
