Main objectives of the position

 

Under the direct supervision of the Sulphides Project Director, the Project Engineering Manager will be responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and control of all engineering activities related to the MUMI Sulphide Project which include a sulphide concentrator​ and sulphating roaster​ (roasting package, crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, filtration, tailings interface, utilities, and associated infrastructure). As the Project develops through the FS phase the scope may be expanded to include a Tailings Storage Facility, mining infrastructure and electrical power supply.

The role ensures engineering delivery is in accordance with approved scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

 

Minimum qualification

 

  • National Diploma/Degree or equivalent in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Process, or related field)
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Undergraduate or post graduate qualification in civil or infrastructure engineering is beneficial
  • Professional ECSA registration (advantageous).

 

Required Experience

 

  • Minimum 10–15 years of engineering experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in an engineering or project management leadership type role
  • Experience in Mining / Processing Plant / Construction / Industrial Projects required.
  • Proven experience in process plant engineering and construction (advantageous)
  • Experience in Africa / remote site environments (preferred)    
  • Experience is required working for an Engineering Procurement and Construction Management company (EPCM) as well as taking a leadership role in a Client Owners Team.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and manage the EPCM engineering team (process, mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation)
  • Lead and manage the Support Owners Team engineering team (process, mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation)
  • Develop engineering execution strategies aligned with project objectives
  • Establish technical standards, procedures, and best practices
  • Ensure design optimization for cost efficiency and operational performance
  • Oversee engineering design from concept through detailed engineering into construction and commissioning
  • Monitor Project and engineering schedules and ensure milestones are met
  • Coordinate with procurement, construction, and operations teams
  • Review and approve technical documents, drawings, specifications, and calculations
  • Manage change control processes
  • Support commissioning and start-up activities
  • Ensure engineering documentation handover to operations
  • Participate in troubleshooting and performance optimization
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, international standards, and company policies
  • Maintain engineering quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC)
  • Oversee risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and technical audits
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards (HSE compliance)
  • Develop and manage the engineering budget
  • Optimize manpower allocation and external consultant usage
  • Control engineering-related costs and identify value engineering opportunities
  • Proactively identify bottlenecks and mitigate risks to ensure milestones are met
  • Interface with:

  • EPCM, vendors and construction contractors
  • Operations readiness team
  • Community relations
  • Regulatory authorities
  • Participate in presentations to senior stakeholders regarding Project progress and strategy.
  • Evaluate and approve contractor engineering deliverables
  • Provide technical sign off during procurement and vendor selection.
  • Comply with Glencore’s environmental management requirements and procedures, as well as MUMI SARL’s environmental policy.
