Mutanda Mining (MUMI S.A.R.L) is a mining company whose registered office is at No. 4746, Avenue Laurent Désiré Kabila, Mutoshi District, Manika Commune, City of Kolwezi. Its operating headquarters, the center of its main activities, is located about 42 km from the city of Kolwezi in the province of Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

MUMI S.A.R.L is an open-pit mining site used for the extraction of copper and cobalt ores. Mutanda Mining has a hydrometallurgical plant and a sulfuric acid manufacturing plant.

MUMI is recruiting a: "Hygienist Assistant"

Main objectives of the position

 

Under the direct supervision of the Occupational Hygienist, the Assistant Hygienist is responsible for supporting occupational health and safety by conducting health sampling and measurements in the processing plant or mining areas. He/She will be responsible for conducting inspections and taking samples in the field to ensure compliance with safety standards and contribute to a safe working environment.

 

Minimum qualification

 

  • State diploma in physical mathematics or biochemical sciences.
  • An occupational health and safety certificate is preferred.

 

Required Experience

 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a mining or industrial environment.

 

Required skills

 

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in English would be an asset.
  • Ability to use sampling instrumentation and measurement or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the operation of occupational hygiene instruments.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of mining processes and operations is an asset.
  • The ability to drive light vehicles safely is an asset.

 

 Key Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure understanding and compliance with current and applicable health and hygiene documentation.
  • Assist the occupational hygienist in conducting occupational health risk assessments.
  • Conduct area surveys, including noise, lighting, vibration, and ergonomic assessments.
  • Determine the thermal conditions of the working environment using WB, DB and WBGT.
  • Determine the speed and volume of air in a workplace using the smoke method.
  • Determine the air velocity of LEV systems using an anemometer.
  • Test for harmful gases using an approved handheld electronic instrument or chemical detector tubes.
  • Monitor the condition of dust collection systems at belt transfer points, breakers and road surface treatment.
  • Measuring noise levels in a workplace using a sound level meter.
  • Comply with Glencore's environmental management requirements and procedures as well as MUMI SARL's environmental policy.
